What inspired you to become the Editor-in-Chief of the IGI Global journal IJSWIS?
Dr. Gupta: Becoming the Editor-in-Chief of IGI Global's journal, IJSWIS, was a decision born out of my deep-rooted commitment to the field of information science and technology. At the time when I was approached to take on this role, I had already been actively involved in the academic community, serving as an editor in chief for other esteemed journals like IJCAC and IJSSCI. However, my motivation to lead IJSWIS stemmed from a profound desire to contribute to the advancement of this field that I had been a part of for many years.

I saw this opportunity as a way to give back, to help steer the journal towards continued growth and evolution. I had witnessed firsthand how journals could transform and adapt over time, and I was eager to contribute to this evolution. Moreover, I was driven by the challenge of enhancing the journal's indexing status, which would not only elevate its visibility but also the impact of the research within.
To you, what are the most important attributes of your journal? What sets your journal apart from others?
Dr. Gupta: In my view, a journal's most crucial attributes revolve around the quality of the research it publishes and the rigorous processes in place to maintain that quality. As the Editor-in-Chief of IJSWIS, I place paramount importance on these aspects.

Quality is at the heart of what we do. We take pride in our commitment to a stringent peer review process that ensures that only the highest-calibre papers make their way into the journal. This dedication to academic excellence is a testament to our unwavering commitment to disseminating research that stands up to the most rigorous scrutiny.

Furthermore, the type and diversity of research we support make IJSWIS truly distinctive. Our journal serves as a vibrant platform for a wide spectrum of research topics within semantic web and information systems. From cutting-edge technological innovations to in-depth theoretical explorations, our publication embraces the richness of our field.

Our editorial board, composed of esteemed experts in the field, reinforces our commitment to quality and innovation. Their collective expertise not only guides the journal's editorial decisions but also provides the intellectual foundation upon which our journal thrives. This gives me the confidence to make bold decisions in steering the journal towards new horizons.
What does it mean for you to lead an open access journal where all new published content is freely available worldwide?
Dr. Gupta: Leading an open access journal where all newly published content is freely available worldwide holds profound significance for me. It embodies a commitment to democratizing knowledge and tearing down the barriers that traditionally hindered the dissemination of research. It means that our journal, in its pursuit of academic excellence, is equally dedicated to inclusivity and global accessibility. Every article we publish becomes a beacon of information, accessible to researchers, students, and practitioners regardless of their geographical location or financial means. This open access philosophy aligns with the ethos of modern scholarship, fostering collaboration, innovation, and the swift advancement of knowledge. It is a privilege to lead a journal that not only values academic rigor but also the principle that knowledge should be a public good, freely accessible to all who seek to learn and contribute to the collective wisdom of our field.

What is your outlook on Open Access research in the future as more mandates are put in place and more publications take up the open access model of publishing?
Dr. Gupta: My outlook on open access research in the future is remarkably optimistic and anticipatory of a transformative shift in the landscape of academic publishing. As more mandates are put in place and an increasing number of publications embrace the open access model, I see a promising era of accessibility and collaboration on the horizon. Open Access aligns perfectly with the principles of equitable knowledge dissemination and the democratization of information. It not only enhances the visibility and impact of research but also transcends geographic and financial barriers, ensuring that the fruits of academic labour benefit society at large. As this momentum continues to grow, we can anticipate a richer tapestry of research, a more diverse pool of voices, and a collective acceleration of scientific progress. It is a future where the boundaries of knowledge are pushed further, where interdisciplinary collaboration thrives, and where the global community reaps the rewards of freely accessible, high-quality research. The emergence of Open Access mandates and practices is a testament to the evolving nature of scholarly communication, and I am excited to witness and contribute to its unfolding in the years to come.
Are there any trending/niche research areas that you are looking for in the articles submitted to your journal? What are some future directions for your research?
Dr. Gupta: IJSWIS is dedicated to remaining at the forefront of research in its field, and we are actively interested in a range of trending and niche research areas that align with our focus. Currently, we are particularly intrigued by emerging topics such as the Metaverse, which presents exciting opportunities and challenges in the realms of virtual reality, augmented reality, and digital ecosystems. Quantum computing is another area of keen interest due to its transformative potential in solving complex problems previously thought insurmountable.

Furthermore, given the rapid evolution of technology, we welcome submissions related to artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning, especially those exploring ethical considerations, novel applications, or interdisciplinary intersections. Research that delves into AI's impact on various industries and society at large is of particular importance.

In terms of future directions for our research, we anticipate an increasing convergence of these areas—Metaverse, quantum computing, AI, and deep learning. Research exploring the interplay between these domains and their potential synergies is poised to be groundbreaking. Additionally, as ethical, and responsible AI becomes more critical, research that investigates the ethical dimensions of technology and proposes frameworks for responsible AI development and deployment will be highly valuable.

Overall, IJSWIS invites researchers to submit articles that push the boundaries of knowledge in these trending and niche research areas, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and contributing to a deeper understanding of the complex challenges and opportunities presented by advancing technology. We are excited to be a platform for these discussions and look forward to showcasing innovative research in these domains.
